Call for Contributions – USI Journal (April–June 2026 Issue)

The United Service Institution of India (USI) invites scholarly contributions for the April–June 2026 issue of the USI Journal, which is proposed to be brought out as a theme-based special issue titled: “Current Conflicts in the World: Trends, Lessons and Strategic Implications.”

The contemporary international security environment is witnessing multiple ongoing conflicts and crises across regions—ranging from conventional wars and proxy confrontations to hybrid warfare, cyber contestation, and the extensive employment of missiles and drones. These developments are significantly reshaping the character of modern warfare and generating critical operational and strategic lessons.

This special issue seeks analytical contributions examining the evolving dynamics of major ongoing conflicts, including the Russia–Ukraine war; Israel–Palestine conflict; Israel–Lebanon tensions; Iran–Israel confrontation; the emerging Iran–US conflict; the Sudan civil war; Myanmar’s internal conflict; instability in the Sahel and West Africa; Haiti’s internal security crisis; Afghanistan–Pakistan tensions; the Yemen and Red Sea security theatre; and wider strategic fault lines in the Indo-Pacific, including the India–Pakistan and India–China contexts.

Contributors are invited to submit articles of approximately 3000 words, in accordance with the USI Journal submission guidelines available on the USI website, addressing inter alia the following themes:

  • Changing character of warfare in ongoing conflicts
  • Lessons in deterrence, coercion, and escalation management
  • Role of emerging technologies, including drones, missiles, cyber, and ISR integration
  • Alliance politics, proxy warfare, and strategic signalling
  • Implications for India’s strategic environment, force modernisation, and preparedness
  • Possible trajectories of current conflicts and emerging geopolitical fault lines

Scholarly contributions are invited from serving officers, veterans, diplomats, academics, researchers, and members of the strategic community. Submissions should aim to provide analytical depth, policy relevance, and actionable insights for India’s military and strategic ecosystem.

Prospective authors are requested to share their proposed title and a brief abstract at the earliest, to facilitate the curation of a coherent and balanced thematic issue.

USI looks forward to receiving valuable contributions for this important edition of the USI Journal.
