Military Heritage Tourism
Military Heritage Tourism is a niche area of tourism for people who wish to understand the military achievements and landmark events such as wars by visiting key sites of conflict/battles to gain an on-ground understanding of these happenings, and comprehend them through the eyes of an expert on the subject.
The first tour of 53 participants to the epic battlefield of Ferozpur and Husainiwala was flagged on 12th Aug 2023 from USI of India by Lt Gen Manjinder Singh, YSM, VSM, Deputy Chief of Integrated Defence Staff. So far six tours have been conducted to Ferozepur and Husainiwala.
Similarly, the first tour Andaman’s and Nicobar Island was organised from 22nd April to 26th April 24. The tour covered visits to places relevant to military history. Second tour to Andaman’s and Nicobar Island is being planned for September 2024.
In addition to above, possibilities to develop military tourism with various State Governments are being explored to showcase their rich military heritage and contribution towards upholding the nation’s pride and security.
