The War Wounded Foundation in New Delhi, is a non-profit organization in India dedicated to supporting disabled war veterans and their families. Established in 2002, it provides financial assistance, medical aid, and rehabilitation services to those injured while serving the nation. The foundation also facilitates skill development and employment opportunities to help veterans reintegrate into civilian life with dignity. By raising awareness and advocating for their rights, the War Wounded Foundation honors the sacrifices of these brave individuals and ensures they receive the care and respect they deserve. 

The War Wounded Foundation Joint Essay Competition, organised in collaboration with the United Service Institution of India (USI) since 2021, is a unique initiative aimed at fostering intellectual engagement on topics related to war, national security, and the welfare of military personnel, particularly those injured in the line of duty. This competition seeks to highlight the resilience, contributions, and sacrifices of the armed forces, while also addressing broader strategic, operational, and policy-related challenges in the defence domain. 

Open to serving and retired officers of the Indian Armed Forces, as well as civilian scholars, the competition provides a platform to delve into critical issues such as the rehabilitation of war-wounded soldiers, strategies for modern conflict resolution, and the evolution of warfare in the 21st century. Topics are carefully curated to encourage innovative thinking, in-depth research, and meaningful dialogue on issues that impact national security and the armed forces' welfare. 

Essays, ranging from 3,000 to 4,000 words, must be original, personally written, and free from plagiarism. Submissions are made anonymous, with authors using a motto on their essays and including personal details in a sealed envelope. Entries are judged on the basis of originality, analytical depth, and practical relevance. The winning essays are published in the USI Journal, and prizes, including the Certificates and cash awards of Rs 15,000/- and Rs 10,000 for the first and second positions respectively, are announced in the USI Council Meeting held in Dec.  

By bridging the worlds of academia and military service, the War Wounded Foundation Joint Essay Competition reinforces the commitment of USI and the War Wounded Foundation to honour the sacrifices of soldiers and contribute to the intellectual advancement of defence and strategic studies.
