The story of its growth is the story of the growth of the Indian Armed Forces. It was founded for ‘furtherance of interest and knowledge in the art, science and literature of the Defence Services.’

VADM SANJAY JASJIT SINGH, SYSM, PVSM, AVSM, NM, PhD (RETD), DG USI

Vice Admiral Sanjay Jasjit Singh, a distinguished Indian Navy officer, served nearly four decades in key command, training, and staff roles. Former Vice Chief of Naval Staff and FOC-in-C Western Naval Command, he ensured

maritime security during critical challenges. Since January 2026, he is Director General of the United Service Institution, Delhi.

Dir CMHCS

Squadron Leader Rana TS Chhina (Retd), served in the Indian Air Force as a helicopter pilot. He is currently Director & Editor of the United Service Institution of India (USI) Centre for Military History and Conflict Studies. The author of a number of books, he was Vice President of the Indian Military

Historical Society (2004-2020), and a member of the Government of India’s Archival Advisory Board. He is a member of the Commonwealth War Graves Commission (CWGC) Independent Advisory Panel and is actively engaged in promoting the preservation of India’s rich tangible and intangible military

heritage. A recipient of the Macgregor Medal for best military reconnaissance, he was appointed an Honorary Member of the Order of the British Empire in 2016 and an Officer of the Belgian Order of Leopold in 2018.

Dir CETANB

Maj Gen (Dr) Pawan Anand, AVSM (Retd), an NDA Gold Medallist and IMA Sword of Honour awardee, served in key command and staff roles, including during Kargil. A defence procurement expert and academic, he is now Professor at NDC and Director, USI-CETANB, advancing defence self-reliance and emerging technologies

DEAN RESEARCH, UNIVERSITY OF LADAKH

Dr. Sonam Joldan is a faculty member at the University of Ladakh, previously Assistant Professor at IUST Kashmir. A JNU PhD scholar, he has published extensively on Ladakh-Tibet relations and presented at global forums. As Principal Investigator and Dean Research, he promotes academic collaboration, research capacity-building, and policy-oriented studies in Himalayan and trans-Himalayan regions.
