Circulation

Check-in/out timings for using the library are as follows:

• Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday   1000 hrs to 1600 hrs
• Every Saturday                                                              1000 hrs to 1400 hrs
• Lunch Break                                                                      1300 hrs to 1345 hrs

The library remains closed on Sundays and gazetted holidays.
Borrowing Privileges
The library offers borrowing privileges to its members, governed by specific rules to ensure equitable access and preservation of resources:

Borrowing Policy:

• For General Members:

           o Members may borrow up to two books for a period of four weeks using their Membership Card.
           o New Books: Issued for a shorter duration of two weeks.
           o For USI Research Fellows: Allowed to borrow up to four books for a period of one month during their fellowship tenure.

• Borrowing Procedure:

           o Books must be borrowed and returned personally or via an authorized representative.
           o Borrowing or returning books through post or courier is strictly prohibited.

Non-Issuable Documents:
The following items cannot be borrowed:

• Reference Books and Materials.
• Books older than 50 years (Exceptions may be granted by the Deputy Director General or Director (Adm).
• Rare Books.
• Magazines.

These policies ensure the proper maintenance of the library's extensive and valuable collection while meeting the needs of its members effectively.

Reservations
Reservation Process: Make an entry in the library's system at the Circulation Counter to reserve the book.
Contact Details: Provide your telephone number and address during the reservation process to facilitate timely notification and follow-up.
Delay in Returning Books
Reminder Notifications:

• If a book is not returned by the due date, a telephonic message will be sent to the member as a reminder.
• If required, a written notice will also be issued.

Escalation Process: In case the book is still not returned, the matter will be escalated to the Deputy Director General for appropriate action.
Loss of Books by Members
If a book is lost by a member or if he fails to return it for two months, the cost will be recovered from the member as under:-

• If available in market – full replacement cost + 25 per cent.
• If not available in market and printing date within 10 years – Twice the publishers’ price.
• If not available in market and printing date more than 10 years old – Four times the publishers’ price.

Also Please Note:

• Members are expected to handle the books, pages of documents with care, and not mark anything (even in pencil).
• All users of the Library are required to sign in and out on arrival and departure.
• Bags and all personal belongings must be deposited at the carrels kept at the entrance of the library.
• Use of mobile phone and music player is not allowed in the Library.
• Conversation should be kept to a minimum to avoid disturbing other users.
• Smoking, eating and drinking are not permitted inside the library.
