USI Internship Programme

The United Service Institution of India (USI) Internship Programme offers a structured and merit-based platform for young scholars to engage with research and analysis in strategic and security studies. The programme is designed to support USI’s research and publication objectives while providing practical exposure to domains such as geopolitics, emerging technologies, military history, conflict studies, United Nations and humanitarian studies, and library sciences.

Eligibility: The programme is open to undergraduate students (in their final year) and graduates for the unpaid internship phase. Candidates with a postgraduate qualification in relevant disciplines, or those who demonstrate strong performance during the initial phase, may be considered for the paid internship.

Duration: The internship is structured in two phases. Phase I is an unpaid internship of a minimum of two months, focused on orientation and on-the-job training. Phase II is a paid internship of up to one year, offered based on performance and institutional requirements.

Activities: Interns are engaged in a range of academic and institutional activities, including research assistance, data collection and analysis, drafting of research notes and policy briefs, and editorial support for publications. They also participate in seminars, workshops, and internal discussions, and gain exposure to applied policy analysis, research methodologies, and professional academic standards under the guidance of experienced mentors.

With a strong emphasis on analytical rigour, structured learning, and professional development, the programme aims to build research capacity and create a sustainable talent pipeline for future roles within USI and the wider strategic community.
