The United Service Institution of India was founded in 1870 by a soldier scholar, Colonel (later Major General) Sir Charles MacGregor. The story of its growth is the story of the growth of the Indian Armed Forces. It was founded for ‘furtherance of interest and knowledge in the art, science and literature of the Defence Services.’

Project Shaurya Sanklan (DIGITISATION)

Taking inspiration from 'Digital India Vision', the Indian Army conceived Project 'SHAURYA SANKALAN' to preserve the rich and glorious history of the Indian Army.The USI-CMHCS, in collaboration with the Army War College, Mhow, initiated a pilot project in Feb 2022, to digitise the records of the Indian Army. The aim of the project is to make this rich historical record available to scholars, historians, and military personnel for the purpose of research as also to preserve the culture of the Army in digital format for easy retrieval via customised software.

Under the Project Digitisation of the Army Records and compilation of the History of the Indian Army in form of a book and a website is beind undertaken by USI-CMHCS. The Book ‘Valour and Honour’ is complete along with the website. The website is yet to be launched.
