The United Service Institution of India was founded in 1870 by a soldier scholar, Colonel (later Major General) Sir Charles MacGregor. The story of its growth is the story of the growth of the Indian Armed Forces. It was founded for ‘furtherance of interest and knowledge in the art, science and literature of the Defence Services.’

A CORE (Combined Operational Review and Evaluation) Programme

A CORE (Combined Operational Review and Evaluation) Programme for senior officers of the rank of Major General and equivalent rank officers from the armed forces and civil services scheduled at USI. CORE programme consisted of lectures and panel discussions by subject experts. The theme included, “G 20 Presidency – India’s arrival at the Global Platform, Opportunities Vs Challenges”, “China’s Evolving Strategic Discourse on India; From Doklam, Galwan, to Arunachal Pradesh”, Revamping India’s National Security Architecture- Integrating Country’s Armed Forces in the Planning Process”, “Theaterisation – Role and Mandate of Integrated Commands”, “Army’s Modernisation in the wake of Emerging Threats”, “Changing Nature of Warfare – Lessons from Russo-Ukraine War”, “Multidomain Operational Capabilities to Execute Operations against Northern Adversary”, “Dynamics of Indo-Pacific Region: Contestation, Competition & Cooperation”, “Emerging Technologies for Disruptive Effects in Non-Kinetics Engagement”, “Strategic Communication”, “Leadership and Art of Negotiations” and “Outreach by Armed Forces for Collaboration, Engagement with Indian Defence Industries and Scientific Community”.The CORE program successfully undertook a comprehensive assessment of various Indian strategic trends and concerns, nationally, and globally. Senior serving and veteran officers from the Army, Navy, Air Force, retired diplomats, and strategic experts mentored the programme.
