The United Service Institution of India was founded in 1870 by a soldier scholar, Colonel (later Major General) Sir Charles MacGregor. The story of its growth is the story of the growth of the Indian Armed Forces. It was founded for ‘furtherance of interest and knowledge in the art, science and literature of the Defence Services.’

USI-DAP JOINT WEBINAR

United Service Institution of India (USI) organised a joint webinar with the Development Academy of the Philippines (DAP), Manila on 05 May 2022.

The speakers and audiences were graciously welcomed by Maj Gen BK Sharma, AVSM, SM** (Retd), Director USI and Atty. Engelbert C. Caronan, Jr., President, Development Academy of the Philippines (DAP). The first session was geared towards assessing and reviewing the Indian perspective on the Russia–Ukraine War: It’s Ramification on Global Order, by Maj Gen BK Sharma, AVSM, SM** (Retd), Director USI. The second speaker for the session Dr Chester B Cabalza Fellow, Council of Fellows, Development Academy of Philippines took stock of the impact of the Russian-Ukraine War from a Philippine perspective. This session was moderated by Dr Archimedes Articulo, Research Consultant DAP/Professor, Central Graduate School, Isabela State University.

The second session commenced with a lecture on Strategic Futures of Indo-Pacific Region – A Philippine Perspective by Mr. Jesse M Pacaccio Former Director for Strategic Planning and Communications, National Coast Watch Secretariat of the Philippines. This was followed by an Indian perspective on the same topic, given by Maj Gen RPS Bhadauria, VSM (Retd), Head CS3. This session was moderated by Dr Roshan Khanijo, Assistant Director (Research), USI.

In their evaluation and estimation of the conflict, the discussants brought out pertinent questions with regards to the Russia-Ukraine Conflict. It generated a deeper understanding on the present state of hybrid warfare and the possible mitigation scenarios in the on-going war.  At the tail end of the discussion, India and Philippines identified strategic vantage points of concerns and expectations in this aspect. The USI-DAP joint webinar received an overwhelming viewership and interaction during the Q&A session.
