The United Service Institution of India was founded in 1870 by a soldier scholar, Colonel (later Major General) Sir Charles MacGregor. The story of its growth is the story of the growth of the Indian Armed Forces. It was founded for ‘furtherance of interest and knowledge in the art, science and literature of the Defence Services.’

Programme Summary

  1. On 22 October, 2024, the United Service Institution of India organised 28th Colonel Pyara Lal Memorial Lecture which was delivered by General Upendra Dwivedi, PVSM, AVSM, Chief of the Army Staff on the topic “Decade of Transformation: Indian Army in Stride with The Future”, followed by a Q&A Session. The opening remarks was given by Maj Gen BK Sharma, AVSM, SM** (Retd), DG, USI.
  2. The event also witnessed the launch of the book, titled “A General Reminisces”, authored by Lt Gen Satish Dua, PVSM, UYSM, SM, VSM (Retd) and an interactive session with Lt Gen Vinod Bhatia, PVSM, AVSM, SM (Retd). The closing remarks was given by Maj Gen RS Yadav, VSM (Retd), Director, CS3. The COAS interacted with the USI Council Members post the event.
