The United Service Institution of India was founded in 1870 by a soldier scholar, Colonel (later Major General) Sir Charles MacGregor. The story of its growth is the story of the growth of the Indian Armed Forces. It was founded for ‘furtherance of interest and knowledge in the art, science and literature of the Defence Services.’

A Report on the Round Table Discussion between the United Service Institution (USI) of India and Mr. Hideaki Shinoda on Indo-Pacific - Indian and Japanese Perspective

On 28 Nov 2023, the Centre for Strategic Studies and Simulation (CS3), United Service Institution (USI) of India organised a Round Table Discussion (RTD) with Prof Hideaki Shinoda, Director, Hiroshima Peacebuilders Centre (HPC), and Prof, at Tokyo University of Foreign Studies. The topic of discussion was Indian and Japanese Perspectives on the Indo-Pacific. Maj Gen RPS Bhadauria, VSM (Retd), Director CS3 delivered the welcome remarks. This was followed by a brief presentation on the history, significance, and work of the USI by Dr Roshan Khanijo, Assistant Director (Research), CS3. The session began with Maj Gen RPS Bhadauria providing a look into ‘The Indian Perspective on the Indo-Pacific Region’. Following that, Prof Hideaki Shinoda, spoke on ‘The Japanese perspective on the Indo-Pacific Region’. An interactive question and answer session was conducted after the talk. Serving and retired military officers and research scholars at the CS3 attended the RTD.
