About the Monograph
| This monograph offers a detailed and chronologically structured analysis of the Kashmir unrest that unfolded during the summer of 2016. It traces the origins of the agitation to intensified infiltration attempts, the mobilisation of Jamaat-e-Islami networks, and the rapid consolidation of separatist elements after the killing of Burhan Wani. Through a wide survey of political manoeuvring, cross-border interference, and internal fault lines, the study highlights how jihadist groups, ISI handlers, seditionist factions, and opportunistic political actors converged to fuel months of violence, shutdowns, and civil disorder across the Valley. The author examines the cascading effects of media narratives, international propaganda, and the domestic political response, including the parliamentary delegation’s failed outreach and India’s subsequent surgical strike. The monograph concludes with the factors that ultimately broke the momentum of the agitation—particularly demonetisation—and offers a sobering reflection on the long-term implications for Kashmiri society and national security. |
