CAPS – USI Joint Webinar on Thursday, 16 Dec 2021 at 1100H to 1325H

Report on the USI-CAPS Joint Webinar

On 16th December 2021, a joint webinar was held between United Service Institution for India (USI) and Chinese Council for Advanced Policy Studies (CAPS) from 1100 hours to 1325 hours. The introductory remarks were given Maj Gen RPS Bhadauria, VSM (Retd) Head (CS3), USI. The welcome remarks were given Maj Gen BK Sharma, AVSM, SM and Bar (Retd), Director, USI and Mr Arthur S Ding, Chairman, CAPS.

The webinar was held in two sessions and the speakers for the webinar are as follows.

Session 1

  • Speaker 1: Lt Gen (Dr) Rakesh Sharma, PVSM, UYSM, AVSM, VSM (Retd) spoke on the Update on the Indo-China Border Dispute.
  • Speaker 2: Mr Arthur S Ding, Chairman, CAPS spoke on the Update on the Cross Straits Tension.

  • There is a bipolar world which consists of the United States of America and China. China has evolved as a major economic power and its economic claws can seen in every country as no country can function without economically engaging with China.
  • China has been continuously taking calculated decisions in the South China Sea by changing its military power. These military demonstrations were portrayed for the United States of America and Taiwan in order to not only show off China’s strengths but also express their ability to conduct joint operations.

  • China is redefining the world war and warfare and is redefining the territorial warfare which the world isn’t ready for. The future wars would be different according to China and the other countries maybe be used to this kind of a war.

  • Speaker 2: Maj Gen BK Sharma, AVSM, SM and Bar (Retd), Director, USI spoke on Update on Geopolitical Developments in the Indo-Pacific

  • Globally countries are aiming to be in sync with the Unites States of America’s perspective of the Indo-Pacific and this is being done in order to maintain a universal geostrategic and security-based perspective.
  • Joint security exercises are done in order to realise the security issues and to comprehend the security-based environment to aim for a peaceful and stable world. These efforts has been made to be proactive and progressive in the Indo-Pacific region along with working on interconnectivity.
  • QUAD and AUKUS are very important groupings in order to deal with security and military discussions for the future threats.
